Battle Report - Iron Warriors vs. Marines Errant

As the night was winding down we decided to do one more game.  This would be the final game of the weekend and it was for all the marbles.  The Chapter Master and Honor Guard in their Landraider were coming to the battle.

We decided to play with the third deployment type that we hadn't yet used, Vanguard Strike.  The Mission was The Relic.  The Relic was a mission I had yet to play in 6th.  Since this game I have played it several times.  I feel its an ok mission but the person who grabs it first seems to have a huge advantagebecause it is fairly difficult to get it back from an opponent.

Here is Deployment.

The Iron Warriors deploy in a semi circle attempting to envelope the Space Marines.  Cover is used as much as possible.

The Marines Errant line up a wall of vehicles not dissimilar to what the Iron Warriors did opposite of them.

Turn one the Iron Warriors take some pot shots and advance to try and close on the objective and force the Marines Errant's hand.

An Iron Warriors Marine squad disembarks from a rhino and advances giving cover to a squad of cultists following behind.

A Rhino with a squad of Raptors following close behind advance up the Iron Warriors' left flank using cover as much as possible.

The two armies begin to close on each other.  The landraider moves up to try and slow the advance of the Chaos forces.

As the landraider moves forward a squad of Raptors lying in wait jump out from behind a building and unleash their meltaguns blowing the huge tank to smithereens!

The Marines Errant do not take kindly to their tanks being blown up.  The advance their entire army into midfield and prepare to attack the Iron Warriors at point blank range.

The Honor Guard's Champion bellows a challenge to the traitorous marines standing mere feet in front of him.

The Iron Warriors are unfazed and grip their bolters tightly ready to unleash a fusilade of fire.

When the dust settled the Marines Errant were far fewer in number and a sneaky cultist squad had seized The Relic and were preparing to sneak away with it.

The Iron Warrior's Warpsmith emerges from his Rhino transport with his hand-picked squad of Chosen.  They unleash a hail of fire and shout threats and challenges at the fast approaching Honor Guard.

The Honor Guard charges the Warpsmith's squad.  The Chapter Master issues a challenge to the Warpsmith and the Warpsmith feels compelled to accept.  Lightning Claws whirled and Mechatendrils flew around smashing both combatants until one final axe swing from the Warpsmith laid low the Chapter Master

The Gods of Chaos were pleased with what they saw and granted the Warpsmith Daemonhood at long last. A huge snarling red-skinned beast with horns and flaming red hair leaped into the Warpsmith's body from another dimension.  The Warpsmith twisted and screamed he grew in height and a massive daemon prince was left standing where the Warpsmith had once been.

Turning around to get its bearing the new monstrosity focused its attention on the two remaining Honor Guard.

The Honor Guard knew they had to avenge their Chapter Master's death and threw themselves headlong into the massive beast.  Meanwhile the cultists took the Relic and began retreating to the safety of the Iron Warriors battle line.

The Daemon Prince and the Honor Guard rained blows on eachother but the outcome was inevitable.

The last thing the Honor Guard saw was a massive Daemon closing for the killing blow.  They knew no more and darkness engulfed them.

The Iron Warriors were victorious, the Marines Errant shattered, and the valuable Relic has in traitor's hands.

The Gods of Chaos were pleased on this day but they hadn't heard the last of the Imperium or the Marines Errant.

And that was the last game of the weekend, only fitting that I would have my first Dark Apotheosis result at the end of a great day of gaming.

Thanks to Pen for having me over for the day and also for letting me re-post some of his pictures he took.

Until next time...

Battle Report - Guard vs. Iron Warriors Part 2

Lets get right into Part two of the second game at my friend's place.

The Iron Warriors begin their counter-attack.  Emerging from Rhinos, two squads begin to close the distance with the Guard while another squad in a Rhino advances straight up the middle.

In the alley way the Guard finally blow up the rhino and advance their Hellhound preparing to roast some Marines.  The Iron Warriors react by advancing on it and attempting to destroy it up close with krak grenades.

Meanwhile in the Iron Warrior's backfield the Raptor squad tries to take on Pask's Leman Russ first by shooting it with meltaguns and then assaulting with Krak grenades and Meltabombs.  Pask's Leman Russ proved too tough though, and it remains fully functional at the end of the turn.

In the center of the board the Iron Warriors continue their attack.

The Predator fires at a Guard Chimera and blows it sky high, dazed the surviving Guardsmen emerge from the wreckage.

Pask moves away from the Raptors and tries to smoke some cultists.

Pask's Leman Russ can chew up cultists, and fearing for their measly lives, they jump into an empty Rhino to escape sure destruction.

The Havoc Squad's 4 autocannons make short work of the Chimera.  The Predator shreds the surviving Guardsmen from the other exploded Chimera.  And the close combat ends with the Iron Warriors squad victorious, they then move up.

The other Marine squad advanced and charged into another squad of Guardsmen annihilating them.

From the Guard's perspective the Iron Warriors are getting a bit too close.

The Raptor's failure leads to a Predator turning around and firing at the Leman Russ.

The Hellhound backs up and turns to engage a different target.

The Raptors move up and the Predator moves as well to try and finally kill the outflanking Leman Russ.  The Havocs jump down from the top of the building to take the rear objective.

The two Marine squads move forward and engage the Guard in Hand to Hand.

The Rhino which moved straight up the center of the board gets destroyed on terrain while a marine squad moves up to take an objective which at the start was firmly entrenched in the Guard lines.

At the end of the game Ursarkar Creed is locked in hand to hand with an Iron Warrior Marine squad.

As the dust settles, the Iron Warriors win the day.

With me being 2-0 at this point in the weekend my friend decides to pull out the big guns and challenges me to one more game.  He takes his Marines Errant and we begin to prepare for one more game.

Next post is Iron Warriors VS Marines Errant.

Until then.....

Battle Report - Guard vs. Iron Warriors Part 1

So this is the second game we played that weekend several months ago.

This game featured his Imperial Guard, this time with a different list, versus my Iron Warriors.

The deployment was short board edges and we were playing Big Guns Never tire.

Here are some pics of deployment:

The Imperial Guard stare down the Iron Warriors armoured formation secure in their faith in the God-Emperor.

A Chimera leads a Hellhound down the Imperial's left flank supported by several squads of brave Guardsmen.

The Iron Warriors deploy in a gun line across the table.  The main force is disguised on their left flank.  The right flank only has one marine squad and a rhino with a chosen squad joined by the Warpsmith.

The Imperial Guard army's full deployment.  Note the light inside the T-shaped building.

The action begins as the Guard move forward and the cultists arrive from reserve to grab the rear objective for the Iron Warriors.

Seeing the Guard advancing down the alleyway with a Hellhound, the Warpsmith orders his chosen to get out of their Rhino.  He then orders the driver to step on it.  The rhino barrels down the alley and skids to a halt blocking the Guard's advance.

One squad of Raptors deepstrikes right next to a Leman Russ battle tank and shoots it with two meltaguns.  The Leman Russ, however, has tough armor and is relatively undamaged.

The Imperial Guard move forward into no-mans land.  The Iron Warriors see this and grin a wicked grin.

Staring down a Predator barrel the central Guard squad advances unfazed by the enemy.

On the Imperial Guard's left flank the Iron Warriors use their armour to block the path of the advance.

The Iron Warriors barely move their line.  On their right flank a squad advances down the alley.

The Imperial Guard continue their advance around the power conduits, moving a Chimera forward with a squad in support.

Frustrated with the Iron Warrior's stalling measures, the Guard attempt to destroy the Rhino in assault.  The Rhino is damaged but is still blocking their way.

Turning their attention to the newly arrives Raptor squad, the center of the Imperial line focuses fire on them. The combined fire wipes out the Raptors who only just arrived moments before.

Imperial fire wrecks the Iron Warrior's Rhino.  The Squad inside emerges from the blasted wreck but not without taking a few casualties first.

The Guard battle line is getting close and after their Rhino gets destroyed, the Iron Warriors know that a counter-punch is needed soon or this battle will turn sour quickly.

The Imperial Guard Command Squad shoots then assaults the Iron Warrior's Marine Squad which emerged from their wrecked APC.  The Sargent issues a challenge and the Iron Warrior's Champion accepts.  After several furious blows the Guard Sargent connects and downs the Aspiring Champion.  No songs will be sung for him because he was not worthy in the eyes of the Gods.

Once again Ursarkar Creed uses his tactical guile and is able to sneak Ace Tanker Pask in his Leman Russ Punisher around the flank.  The lumbering behemoth emerges behind the Iron Warrior's line and begins firing into the rear of the silver and chevroned Chaos followers.

Now that the battle is truly joined we must pause.

Until Next time....
