D-Company 2016 Campaign Battle Report #2: Orks Vs Iron Warriors

The initial attack went so well that the Warsmith Martok continued to push the Orks back.  Adding in additional units to reinforce his army, Martok decides to continue to force the attack against the Greenskins.

A second line of trenches is soon discovered and the mission is set.   The Iron Warriors must capture the second line of trenches and hold the first line to prevent the two lines from linking up and presenting a more solid front.

Immediately the Iron Warriors begin their assault.  The rhinos, the vindicator, the contemptor and the terminators move forward while the Medusa fires into the trenches.

The large Ork Mob on the right flank continues to advance, mostly out of sight of the Iron Warriors.  Warsmith Martok knew he had to do something to stop them.

Shifting the rhinos to move closer to the Ork mob, Martok believes he has the advantage.

The Ork Warphead teleports himself into the trench and the Terminators open fire.  The trench however proves to be effective cover and the large Ork doesn't take any wounds.

The Orks begin firing on the Iron Warrior vehicles, destroying the Rhino that was transporting the Iron Warrior Destroyer squad.  They are un fazed by the explosion and prepare their weapons to unload into the large Ork Mob.

Martok's Rhino is wrecked and he and his veteran bodyguard must disembark.  He chooses to exit the wreckage on the side facing the trenches.  Martok knows that he must get into the trenches and slay as many orks as possible if he is going to accomplish this mission's objectives.

The Contemptor and Martok and his bodyguard move up ready to assault whilst the Destroyers, the Medusa and the Terminators open fire on the large Mob of boyz.

Martok, his squad and the Contemptor fail their charges into the trench and the Orks open fire, killing Martok's bodyguard.

The Grot squad then charges out of the trench system into Martok.

The Iron Warrior's Warsmith is made of sterner stuff, however, and dispatches and runs down the weedy Gretchin.

The Vindicator fires into the Warboss and his Nobs, killing them outright.  Only their charred remains are left lying just outside of the trenches.

Martok pushes his advantage into the trenches and charges into the Flash Gits.

The Destroyers throw a second Phosphex bomb into the large Ork Mob.

Warsmith Martok eliminates the Flash Gits before they can strike back and consolidates towards the Big Mek.  The Big Mek had fired into the Contemptor, immobilizing it.

The Ork Mob attempts to be sneaky and they make their way into the trenches.

Warsmith Martok kills the Big Mek in brutal hand to hand combat, slaying the beast of an Ork before he can slice the Iron Warrios in two with his klaws.

With the Vindicator, the Terminators and the Destroyers firing into the Ork Mob, the orks retreat out of line of sight of the marines.

The Orks advance again into the trenches, coming close to the Terminators.

Warsmith Martok braces for the Ork shooting.

With only one wound left, the Grot Blastas proved to be too much, Martok takes a mortal wound and collapses.

The Orks charge into the Destroyers.

With the Destroyers despatched, the Terminators charge into the Orks.

With Martok gone, the Vindicator tries for retaliation by firing into the Grots, the superior cover provided by the trenches, however, saves them from extinction.

The Ork Mob, mainly because of the Nob with the power klaw, kills the two Terminators.

The game has ended.  WIth only an immobilized contemptor dreadnought in the Ork trenches, and an Ork Mob in the Iron Warrior trenches, the Orks pull out the victory.

Martok will be back.  The next time the two forces meet he will be ready, new weapons are being called for from the Iron Warriors' reserves.

Unfortunately for the Astartes, the Orks will have had enough time to connect the two sections of trenches into one continuous trenchwork.  The Iron Warriors will continue to be on the offensive, they must at all costs charge into the teeth of the Ork firepower and eliminate them at close range.

The next encounter will be pivotal for both sides.

In several weeks we will play the next game and I will report it here.

This was a great game, and a nail-biter to the end.

The next game should be just as good.

Until then.....

D-Company 2016 Campaign Battle Report #1: Orks Vs Iron Warriors

After the events at the industrial plant on DORIC-ar1 where the Iron Warriors were repelled by a combined force of Blood Angels and Necrons, the Iron Warriors decide to go investigate the rumors of an Ork Warboss eschewing some of his normal instincts.

This Ork Warboss is, instead of going on the offensive, he is building defences. He is building a trench system.

The Warsmith Martok takes a small scouting force to discern what exactly is going on with these Orks.

IW Army List:

HQ:
Warsmith Martok - Servo Arm, master-crafted paragon blade, melta bombs, iron halo, digital lasers, plasma pistol
Rite Of War: Pride of the Legion

Elites:
Contemptor with multimelta and heavy flamer

Troops:
6 veterans, plasmagun, legion vexilla
1 sargent, artificer armour, power sword
in rhino

4 Terminators 2 chainfists, 2 powerfists
1 Sargent grenade harness

Heavy Support:
Vindicator

1000 points

On the outskirts of a small town, the Orks have indeed been building a trench system.

A trench system that is currently being manned by Grots.

Warsmith Martok is offended by these greenskins pitiful attempts to build fortifications.  He wears a large frown on his face for most of this engagement.

The Iron Warriors' Vindicator peeks out from behind a building and fires into the trench works.

Some of the Orks choose to cower in the ruined building, while some of the larger ones begin to move out towards the trenches.

Suddenly, a Warphead zaps into existence right in front of the Vindicator.

The Iron Warriors are not amused and proceed to pummel him into dust with their firepower.

The Orks fire their Shokk Attak Gun at the Iron Warrior Terminators.  Ork technology isn't known for its reliability and instead of it hitting the Terminators it is placed in the trench system.  It hits two squads and two of the Iron Warriors squads are warped forwards.

The Terminators end up in the trenches and the Veteran Tactical squad scatters from the trenches into the open in front of them.

The Terminators proceed to charge into the Grots holding the trenches.  The believe this should be an easy fight.

They are wrong.  Two Terminators fall to the Grots.  The Terminators fall back out of the trench system.

Another Terminator is shot down by Grot firepower.

This trench system is proving harder to capture than the Warsmith had originally thought.  He orders his men to redouble their efforts.  The Contemptor and the veteran squad moves forward.  The Vindicator opens up.

This time the Iron Warriors do not fail when they charge.

The trench system is theirs.

Warsmith Martok is pleased with the result this time.  Perturabo will be happy to know that there is a new enemy on DORIC-ar1 that enjoys building and manning fortifications as much as the Iron Warriors.

This was two weeks ago,.  We had a good game and tonight we will have another larger game.  I believe there will be more trenches this time as well.

See you next time....

Iron Warriors WIPS and new Terrain WIPS

Current WIPS.

In my previous post I mentioned that I had two terrain projects I was working on.
The first one is a zone mortalis board.

The Zone Mortalis board will look similar to my friend Joe's board.  He was able to make the corner pieces and walls that he gave me.  He also ordered a number of wide Zone Mortalis doors for me as well.

Joe's Board

For my board I will still need to figure out what I want the base to look like.

This is my Zone Mortalis Terrain, some of it still needs to be painted.

The second terrain board I will be working on is a trench board.  I haven't begun work on it yet but my friend Dale has.

Dale and I are planning to play a number of games on a large trench warfare board.  He has begun making 1' square sections for his Orks.  I will soon be making Iron Warrior sections.  I kind of want to make larger sections, like 2' by 2' but we will see.

 Dale's WIP Trench sections.

 A prototype trench section.

It should be an interesting board having both well-made trench works (Iron Warriors know how to do that sort of thing.) and not well-made trench works (Orks don't really care how pretty their things are.)

My 30k Iron Warriors are coming along.  I am not sure what I want to buy after my current batch of minis are done.  I could buy a few Dreadclaws or a Spartan, either of which would be useful.  I could continue to buy old models like old vindicators and predators.  All I know for certain is I will continue buying the small red books from Forgeworld and possibly some of the larger leather-bound books from them as well.

Work In Progress Medusa and Rhino.

Work In Progress Rogue Trader-Era Tactical Squad.

Work In Progress Tactical Support Squad.

That's it for now.  See you next time when I should have more updates.

Big Game 2016 review

Well the 2016 Big Game has come and gone.  I want to talk a little about the game and the weekend in this post.  I will talk about the good and the bad, up first is the bad.

The bad.

It was held at the same hotel as the past few years.  Two years ago and even last year I would have put the hotel in the good category but this year was different.

In the past the hotel was kept up and the people who ran the place were responsive to our needs throughout the weekend.  This year we found the hotel hallways and rooms to be rather run down and late at night on Friday as I walked down the hallway to my room, I felt like I was walking down a hallway from an abandoned hotel in one of Dan Bell's YouTube videos.

There also used to be a bar and restaurant immediately beyond a door from the room we booked for the game, making getting food and drink quite easy.  This year there was no bar or restaurant.

The reason for the changes no doubt were because of an ownership change.  We were all in agreement I think that next year we will need to find a new venue.

The room itself was fine, but everything surrounding the room was an issue.

I honestly don't have any other gripes about the weekend.

The Good.

The Friday night games.  I had two great games on Friday night.  The first was a showdown between Perturabo and Conrad Curze in a 30k mission.  In the end, Perturabo with some help from a few predators and his terminator command squad, killed Conrad in close combat.

The Night Haunter out in the open.

 Perturabo and bodyguard charge Curze.

Near the end of the game, Perturabo is running wild and the Iron Warriors have control.

The second game was a 3 way game between my 30k Iron warriors and 40k Chaos and 40k guard and Chaos.  It was another great game with one friend whom I hadn't gamed with in years and another friend who is always a good opponent.

The Saturday game was again Perturabo and his 30k legion along with the Tzeentch and Slaanesh Chaos player from Friday against Necrons and Blood Angels.  This game was 12,000 points per side and lasted all day.

The Iron Warriors and their Chaos allies face off against Blood Angels and Necrons.

One of the highlights for me was that I was able to assault the Tesseract Vault with two Contemptors and Perturabo and destroy it after several turns of it being a pain in my patoot.

 Closing Thoughts.

This year's game was fought on the planet of DORIC-ar1.  The game was actually a series of games.  There were 5 tables that each had a different theme to fit the location on the planet they were representing.  Each table had one game with matched players that had to be fought at some point during the weekend, when that one pivotal game was not being fought on that table then it could be used for another game.

The games fought over the weekend affected a large hex map of the planet.  Each game affected a number of hexes equal to the size of the game played.  Each hex was 500 points.  At the end of the weekend the Chaos forces had done quite well for themselves even though I lost my game.

This is the pre-Big Game map.

The best thing about this Big Game and something I hope will set a precedent, is that this game was the kickoff of a new year-long campaign.  I am excited to play some games for the campaign and forge a new narrative for my new Iron Warrior army.

Future Blog Posts.

I hope to blog more often from here on out.  I have a lot of things to blog about I just have been lazy.

Since the big game ended, I have painted up a squad of Rogue Trader-era beakie marines and an old rhino to go with them as well as a vindicator.

I have also begun another beakie squad and rhino, tactical support squad and a Medusa.

To finish off my current batch of 30k Iron Warriors I need to paint the following (Not including the units listed above):
- Another Medusa
- A Malcador Defender (it is already painted but I need to repaint it to match my 30k IW)
- 2 Land Speeders with heavy bolters
- A six-man Iron Havoc Squad with lascannons
- 2 Cataphracti terminators
- Another old rhino

Other things I am working on:
- A Zone Mortalis board
- A modular trench board
- More ruined buildings

Next time I will have an update on the terrain and the Iron Warriors.

Finished Iron Warrior Legion Models and new Big Game Army List

Welcome back and Happy New Year!!  It's been quite a while since I posted but I'm back, hopefully I will start posting again on a regular basis.

I want to update my progress on my Heresy Era Iron Warriors.  The pics I will be posting will be what I have finished for the Big Game which is coming up in only a few weeks.

After the pics is my finished (hopefully) army list for the Big Game.  It includes models that are not in the posted pics.  The models not shown in pictures but in my army list are models which I made for my 40k Iron Warriors and for this big game will be using to represent 30k Iron Warriors.  In the future when I play 30k I won't use any 40k models but I couldn't finish all of my 30k models in time for the Big Game in part because I have Blood Angels to paint for a buddy of mine who will be using them in the Big Game.

Anyways, on with the pics:
