Big Game 2014 - Report, Pics, and thoughts... Part 1

So this year I was tasked with putting together the Big Game, my gaming group's annual giant game where we all try to get together and throw some dice.

I decided to try and stay fairly close to the actual Apocalypse rules.  I tried to keep everyone on the same turn, we had people bringing anywhere from 4500 points to 8,000 points.  I made a map where there were 4 'warzones', each with different rules.

Everyone had a great time at the event, which I am happy about but there were some issues that I was not so happy about.

Running a game this size presents some problems and anyone who has ever tried to play an Apocalypse game with armies totaling more than 6,000 points per side will know what I am talking about.

The biggest problem with Apoc games is that turns take waaaay to long when you have huge armies on the table.

There are ways to make this work but I unfortunately didn't do it properly.  I will explain in the next post.

For now here are some pics.

Next time I will talk more about the rules we used and show more detailed pics as well....

Until next time.....

  1. I thought it was a good game, I will be interested to see what you thought went wrong. I think 50% of it can be whittled down to "those who didn't show up," since you had to cover for them and put in more work than you already had.

Very interested in talking on the phone with you about this game.

  2. Agreed, it was a fun game. I think rules wise you did very well. Like Mark said, it's not your fault two armies didn't show up. Great job!
